An apostille certifies that a public document – a birth certificate, a diploma or a commercial register extract – is authentic, so that it can be used in another country. Liechtenstein, Switzerland, Austria and more than 120 other states are parties to the 1961 Hague Apostille Convention. Between these states, the apostille replaces the lengthy legalisation through embassies.
The apostille must be issued in the country where the document originates. We tell you which office is responsible, submit the documents for you and combine the apostille with a certified translation where required – in the correct order.
What's included
- Check whether the destination country accepts the apostille or requires legalisation
- Preliminary certification if another office has to authenticate the document first
- Submission to the competent authority in Liechtenstein, Switzerland or abroad
- Certified translation before or after the apostille, as required by the destination country
- Return by registered mail or courier
Frequently asked questions
Where is an apostille issued?
Always in the state that issued the document. A Liechtenstein document receives its apostille in Liechtenstein, a Swiss document in Switzerland. We organise this for you, including for documents from abroad.
Does the translation also need an apostille?
It depends on the destination country. Some countries require an apostille on the original document and another on the certified translation. We check this before we start.
What if the destination country is not part of the Hague Convention?
Then the document must be legalised through the consulate or embassy of the destination country. We handle that route for you as well.
